Nollywood luminary, Iyabo Ojo, has been subjected to a barrage of verbal assaults and threats following her endorsement of Peter Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) presidential candidate, for the upcoming elections in February. Despite being targeted with vitriolic attacks, the mother of two stood her ground, highlighting that netizens must stop resorting to bullying tactics to coerce celebrities to support their preferred candidates.

However, even after her admonishment for peace, Wale Akerele, a prominent social media influencer, took to the platform to lambast Iyabo Ojo and vilify her for her choice of candidate over Bola Ahmed Tinubu (Asiwaju). Akerele stooped to a new low by referring to the actress as a prostitute in his diatribe.
In response, the actress wrote: “Who is this one, animal, place, or thing?……….. Akowere, trust me, you’re a product of Alasewo bcos your mother, wife & sidehens are all bonafide memebers.”
Earlier, Iyabo Ojo emphasized that the public's antagonism towards celebrities who do not align with their political preferences is often misguided. She urged people to recognize that politicians have friends, and their interactions behind closed doors may differ from what is portrayed in public.

The accomplished actress holds steadfast in her belief that Peter Obi's vision and agenda resonate with hers, regardless of the outcome of the election. Her courageous stance on supporting the candidate of her choice in the face of unwarranted attacks is a reflection of her strong character and principled values.

As a top influencer in the entertainment industry, Iyabo Ojo's endorsement of Peter Obi has garnered significant attention and could sway voters. However, her stance has also exposed her to vicious online trolling, indicating the toxicity of political discourse in Nigeria's cyberspace.
Iyabo Ojo said: “I do not understand why some people on social media has resulted to insulting other people who are not in support of their political candidate, it’s democracy & everyone is entitled to support who so ever they wish to support, if you don’t like their choice fine vote your choice, one thing you must understand is this politicians are friends behind close doors & they or their children will never loss a sweat nor blood because of you, please! Please!! please!!! stop bullying people that are not supporting your own candidate, ejor.

“We’re all different, so our views defer, we see things differently & reason differently, politics is not a do or die, it’s not war, i will not make enemies or fight with any of my friends, colleagues or family who decides to vote their choice of candidate no matter how much we both disagree on our believes….. please let’s all embrace peace & not lose focus.”

“I Alice Iyabo Ojo strongly believes in Peter Obi & i stand Obedient in my choice whether he wins or not because my vision & dreams for my country alliance with the Obedient agenda…

“You also have a right to yours & and at the end of the day, one common interest we should all have is building a better Nigeria.”
Despite the harassment and intimidation, Iyabo Ojo remains a beacon of resilience and a testament to the power of conviction. Her advocacy for political engagement and peaceful dialogue is a reminder that Nigeria's democracy rests on the participation of all citizens, irrespective of their social status
