Governor Wike reveals why he chooses Tinubu over Atiku for president

On February 15, 2023, the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, met with Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer, at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt. The meeting was attended by APC chieftains, including Tinubu's running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Governors Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), David Umahi (Ebonyi), former Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi, Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, Tony Okocha, and others. This meeting followed Tinubu's presidential campaign rally at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

During the meeting, Governor Wike discussed the current crises in various Nigerian states and called on the APC-led government to address these issues promptly. Wike emphasized the importance of finding a lasting solution to these challenges and highlighted the relevance of the upcoming 2023 election.

Regarding Tinubu's candidacy, Wike did not state whether he would be supporting or opposing him. It is, however, worth noting that Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are the flagbearers of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, respectively.

As Nigeria prepares for the 2023 general election, political alignments and realignments are taking center stage. It remains to be seen how these dynamics will play out in the coming months.

“For the first time I have seen a government procuring opposition to join them to defend their policy. A policy that is anti-people. You are now the ones procuring we (PDP) to defend something that is totally wrong. I have seen anything like this in my life. It is a big shame,” he said.
