Kaizer Chiefs bosses discussing coach Zwane’s future
Recent reports suggest that the Kaizer Chiefs hierarchy is experiencing a divide over the support of current head coach, Arthur Zwane. Zwane, who signed a three-year contract with the club at the start of the season, had initially enjoyed full backing from the management team. However, it seems that this may no longer be the case.
At the beginning of Zwane's tenure, the Chiefs underwent a significant overhaul, releasing several experienced players who had failed to lead the team to any silverware. Many of these players were over the age of 30 and had not won any trophies during their lengthy stays at the club. The Chiefs then invested in younger or prime-age players, such as Ashley du Preez, Zitha Kwinika, George Matlou, Dillon Solomons, and Yusuf Maart, among others. Their new acquisitions, including Thatayaone Ditlhokwe (24), Given Msimango (26), and Mduduzi Mdantsane (28), have all proven consistent with Zwane's strategy.
Despite these efforts, rumors suggest that the Kaizer Chiefs are actively seeking a replacement for Zwane, just one season into his appointment. According to SABC Sport, the backing Zwane once enjoyed from management is now shaky, and high-ranking sources indicate that the club will actively look for a new coach. However, insiders suggest that the Chiefs will explore all other alternatives before potentially considering a replacement for Zwane, who worked his way up as a youth tactician at Naturena after retiring.
Zwane has faced challenges during his tenure, leading the team to their record number of losses in Premier Soccer League history, with 12 after their 1-0 defeat to SuperSport United on Saturday. In an unfortunate turn of events, the club legend was escorted by police as Amakhosi fans threw objects at him as he exited the stadium.
“SABC Sport now understands the backing Zwane enjoyed from management when he initially took over is shaky, with high-ranking sources indicating the club will actively look for a replacement. According to insiders, Chiefs are likely to exhaust all other alternatives in searching for a coach and failing which, Zwane, who worked his way up as a youth tactician at Naturena after retiring, could get a stay of execution…but with a tight leash.” Wrote their website.
